Coherent (FMCW) LiDAR depends on a highly linear, narrow-linewidth laser chirp to achieve high-resolution range and velocity measurement; excess phase noise in the source directly degrades achievable range resolution and detection distance. The sub-1 kHz linewidth of this laser variant makes it a strong reference or development source for FMCW chirp-generation research, letting LiDAR system designers evaluate chirp linearity and range performance against a source whose own phase noise is not a limiting factor.
As LiDAR development moves from bench-top laser characterisation through to vehicle-mounted or field testing, the laser’s compatibility with multiple CoBrite chassis options allows the development team to scale from a single benchtop unit to a multi-port rack configuration as the program matures, without changing laser source families mid-development.
