Narrow Linewidth Tunable Laser Source for Opto-Electronic Packaging

Industry:

Opto-Electronic Packaging
Products:
Optical Communication

Opto-electronic packaging characterises laser diodes, VCSELs, and photonic integrated circuits before shipment, where both mechanical assembly accuracy and optical performance must be verified. This sub-1 kHz linewidth laser variant serves as a reference source during packaging validation, allowing manufacturers to compare a packaged device’s output against a known, spectrally pure benchmark when characterising receiver-side or comparative laser performance.

Because packaging lines run high-volume, repeatable test sequences, having a stable reference source available on the same bench as dedicated alignment and characterisation stations simplifies quality-control workflows without introducing a separate, unstable comparison point into the process.

FAQs

It works as a stable reference source during packaging validation. Manufacturers compare the output of a packaged laser diode, VCSEL or photonic integrated circuit against a known, spectrally pure benchmark when characterising receiver-side or comparative laser performance.

A reference source this spectrally pure gives packaging lines a fixed benchmark. Sub-1 kHz linewidth means the output is concentrated in an extremely narrow band of wavelengths, so any difference you measure comes from the device under test, not from the comparison source. Keeping it on the same bench as alignment and characterisation stations also keeps high-volume, repeatable QC sequences simple.

The laser module is hosted in CoBrite DX, DX2 or MX chassis, in benchtop, compact or 19-inch rack configurations. On the same bench, the OMFT IQ Reference Transmitter uses it as the optical carrier for DP-QPSK and higher-order QAM signals, the CORX Coherent Optical IQ Receiver uses a matched narrow-linewidth laser as its local oscillator, and the ID OSA Optical Spectrum Analyser verifies centre wavelength, linewidth and side-mode suppression ratio during qualification.

United Spectrum Instruments (USI), based in Chennai, is the India distributor for ID Photonics. USI supplies the laser together with the related CoBrite chassis, OMFT transmitter, CORX receiver and ID OSA, so you can source a complete packaging test setup from one supplier.
