Key Highlights

  • Fume control for aerospace and defence electronics, from high-reliability hand soldering and rework to laser marking and laser processing cells
  • Capture at source at every bench and laser, with HEPA and activated carbon filtration on each unit
  • Filter status you can see: a replacement indicator on the bench unit, iQ diagnostics with USB data access, and Ethernet monitoring on the Pro OS Connect model
  • Sized for low-volume, high-mix work: single-operator soldering units, a compact benchtop laser extractor and larger units for connected or two-station laser cells
  • Supplied and supported in India by USI, authorised distributor of Donaldson BOFA

Why Aerospace and Defence Electronics Need Controlled Fume Extraction

Aerospace and defence electronics are usually built in small batches to tight workmanship requirements. Avionics, radar, communication and navigation modules are hand-soldered, reworked, inspected and marked, often one assembly at a time, and each step is recorded so that the build can be traced long after delivery.

Flux smoke from soldering and rework, and plume from laser marking and laser processing, settle on boards, connectors and optics and reach operators working at close range. In this kind of work, fume control is part of keeping the process repeatable: the extractor has to capture fumes at the source, and the team needs to know when a filter needs attention before capture falls off, not after a batch is finished.

Electronic Fume Extraction for High-Reliability Assembly

Electronic fume extraction draws fumes away at the soldering tip or laser head, passes them through particle and carbon filters and returns the cleaned air to the room. Donaldson BOFA builds separate units for hand soldering and for laser processes, so a defence electronics facility can match each bench or laser to an extractor designed for its type of fume and its load.

Across the setup on this page, every unit uses HEPA and carbon filtration. The differences between models lie in airflow, the number of capture points and how much each unit reports about its own condition.

Why Filter Visibility Matters

On a high-reliability line, a loaded filter that quietly reduces capture is a process risk rather than just a maintenance job. The units in this setup give three levels of visibility:

  • Bench indicator: the T 15 includes an indicator that prompts timely filter replacement at each soldering station.
  • iQ diagnostics: the AD 1500 iQ Dual Arm reports filter life, system pressure and airflow, with onboard diagnostics, USB data access and alerts.
  • Network monitoring: the AD Oracle Pro OS Connect links to factory systems over Ethernet (RJ45) for central monitoring, with configurable filter status alerts.

Built for Aerospace and Defence Production

Each unit covers a different station on a typical aerospace or defence electronics floor.

Hand soldering and rework benches

The T 15 is a single-operator unit for manual soldering and SMT rework. It weighs 5 kg, runs below 56 dBA on a 230 V single-phase supply and uses HEPA and carbon filters.

Benchtop laser marking for traceability

The AD Access sits beside or beneath benchtop lasers that mark labels, tags and plastic parts, at 180 m³/hr and below 61 dBA in a 24 kg cabinet with HEPA and activated carbon filters. On metals it is intended only for engraving or low-power marking.

Connected laser cells

The AD Oracle Pro OS Connect is a mid-sized, dual-blower unit giving 410 m³/hr at 96 mbar, with DeepPleat DUO pre-filter, HEPA and carbon stages, a touchscreen and two-way data connectivity for cutting, engraving and welding lasers.

Two laser stations from one unit

The AD 1500 iQ Dual Arm provides 1150 m³/hr at 86 mbar through two independently positioned arms, so two laser workstations or a wide work area can share one extractor. It runs on a 415 V three-phase supply.

Building a Complete Defence Electronics Fume Extraction Setup

Hand soldering and rework benches start with a T 15 at each operator position. Benchtop lasers marking labels, tags and part identifiers are paired with the AD Access. Laser cells that need central monitoring are connected to the AD Oracle Pro OS Connect, and where two laser workstations sit side by side, the AD 1500 iQ Dual Arm serves both from one cabinet. Genuine BOFA replacement filters for every unit are supplied from India.

FAQs

Aerospace and defence electronics are hand-soldered, reworked and laser-marked in small batches, often one assembly at a time. Flux smoke and laser plume settle on boards, connectors and optics and reach operators working close to the work. Extracting fumes at the source keeps the work area clean, protects staff and helps keep a high-reliability process repeatable from one build to the next.

For manual soldering and SMT rework, a single-operator unit such as the BOFA T 15 sits on the bench next to each operator. It weighs 5 kg, runs below 56 dBA on a 230 V single-phase supply and uses HEPA and carbon filters, with an indicator that prompts filter replacement. One unit per position keeps capture close to each soldering tip.

Yes. The BOFA AD Oracle Pro OS Connect links to factory systems over Ethernet (RJ45) for central monitoring, real-time diagnostics and configurable filter alerts. The AD 1500 iQ Dual Arm reports filter life, system pressure and airflow, with onboard diagnostics and USB data access. This lets a defence electronics team see filter status before capture falls off, rather than after a batch.

United Spectrum Instruments (USI), Chennai, is the authorised distributor of Donaldson BOFA in India. USI supplies electronic fume extraction for soldering benches and laser cells, with genuine replacement filters, to aerospace and defence electronics manufacturers, service providers and R&D labs. It offers the complete setup from one supplier, with sizing guidance before purchase and remote technical support afterwards.
