Industrial Laser System

Two heads mark matched pairs or two zones of one large part at the same time.

Key Highlights

  • High-contrast, permanent identification for automotive parts: serial numbers, batch codes, Data Matrix codes, VINs and logos
  • Marking matched to how parts move: on a bench, on a running conveyor, in pairs or on large 3D assemblies
  • On-the-fly marking that tracks conveyor speed through an encoder, so the line never stops for a mark
  • FlyCAD software with MES and ERP integration and PROFIBUS, PROFINET and RS232 interfaces for automated cells
  • Supplied and supported in India by USI, authorised distributor of LASIT Laser (Italy)

Why Automotive Lines Depend on Fast, Readable Part Marks

In automotive production every part carries its own record. Gears, housings, crankshafts, brake parts, EV battery modules and trim panels are marked with a serial number, batch code or Data Matrix code that is scanned again at assembly, at inspection and in service. If a mark is missing or unreadable, the part loses its history.

The mark also has to keep pace with the line. A marking station that holds up the conveyor costs output on every shift, and labels or inkjet codes that smudge add rework. Laser marking writes a permanent, high-contrast mark in seconds, straight from the production database, and fits into the cycle instead of interrupting it.

Laser Marking Matched to How Parts Move

Laser marking uses a fibre laser and a galvanometer scanner to change the surface of the part, darkening, lightening or lightly removing material so text, logos and 2D codes stand out clearly. Nothing touches the part and there are no inks, solvents or labels to replace.

The laser source is often the same from station to station. What changes is how the part arrives: placed in a cabinet by hand, carried past on a conveyor, presented in matched pairs or too large to move at all. LASIT builds a machine for each of these cases around the same fibre source and FlyCAD software.

Why Part Flow Decides the Machine

Choosing a marking system starts with the line, not the laser power. Three questions settle most automotive applications:

  • Does the part stop? Parts that stop at a station suit a cabinet machine; parts that keep moving on a conveyor need on-the-fly marking that follows them.
  • Are parts made in pairs? Left and right parts, gear sets or matched halves can be marked side by side with two heads working at the same time.
  • Can the part be moved? Chassis members, body structures and large housings are marked by bringing the laser head to the part on a robot.

Built for Automotive Production Lines

The LASIT range shares one control platform, so bench, conveyor and robot stations all run the same software.

Marking without stopping the conveyor

On the on-the-fly machine, a rotary encoder measures belt speed and FlyCAD shifts the scanner path to follow each part, while a sensor signals when a part enters the marking field. VINs, lot codes and inspection stamps are applied without slowing the line.

Two heads, twice the output

The dual-head machine runs two laser heads at once: identical marks on two parts, different zones of one large part, or a different design on each part.

Robot-guided marking in 3D

The robotic workstation carries the marking head on a 6-axis robot, presenting the beam square to the surface at each position. A vision system recognises the part, measures its position and verifies the mark, inside a guarded cell with light curtains and interlocks.

Codes straight from the plant system

FlyCAD handles serial numbers, barcodes, Data Matrix codes and logos, connects to MES and ERP systems and controls up to 9 axes. PROFIBUS, PROFINET and RS232 interfaces link the marker to PLCs and robots on the line.

Setting Up a Complete Automotive Marking Line

Most plants start with the Fiber Laser Marking Machine, a 20 W, 30 W or 50 W fibre marker with a 750 × 500 mm working area for parts loaded at a station. Where parts travel on a conveyor, the On-the-Fly Laser Marking Machine marks them in motion, synchronised to belt speed. For matched pairs or large parts with several mark zones, the Dual-Head Laser Marking Machine marks with two heads at once. VINs on chassis and body structures, and serials on engines, transmissions and brakes in awkward positions, are handled by the Robotic Laser Marking Workstation, with vision-guided positioning and mark verification.

Who Uses It

  • Automotive OEM powertrain, chassis and assembly plants
  • Tier-1 and tier-2 automotive component suppliers
  • EV battery module and power electronics manufacturers
  • Gear, shaft, brake and steering component makers
  • Interior trim and plastic part manufacturers

FAQs

Laser marking gives automotive parts a permanent, high-contrast serial number, batch code, Data Matrix code or VIN without inks, labels or contact. The mark comes straight from the plant’s MES or ERP system, so every part can be traced through assembly, inspection and service. It fits into the cycle time of the line and removes the rework caused by smudged ink or peeling labels.

Yes. The On-the-Fly Laser Marking Machine uses a rotary encoder on the conveyor to measure belt speed, and FlyCAD shifts the scanner path to follow each part as it passes. A sensor signals when a part enters the marking field. VINs, lot codes and inspection stamps are marked without stopping or slowing the line, on steel, aluminium alloys and composites.

For matched pairs such as left and right parts or gear sets, the Dual-Head Laser Marking Machine marks with two heads at the same time, or splits one large part into two zones. For chassis members, body structures and parts that cannot be moved easily, the Robotic Laser Marking Workstation carries the marking head on a 6-axis robot, with vision-guided positioning and mark verification.
